Elective Courses (1)

Health Care Safety

Code : AHS3310                    Unit : 4                  Prerequisite :  HS 2000 and PH 3000

Reviews common safety practices to be used throughout the health care arena (covering both employee and patient safety) including incident reporting, infection control, lifting techniques, error prevention, reporting systems, workforce issues, accountability, laws and regulations and the promotion and implementation of safety programs and practices.

Hospital Safety and Health

   Code : AHS 3340                  Unit : 4               Prerequisite :  HS 2000 and PH 3000

Concentrates on the principles and practices of safety in the hospital setting by focusing on exposures including tuberculosis, needle-sticks, anesthesia gases, latex allergies, radiation, medical waste, and the controls necessary to prevent injury both to the health care employee and the patient.

Quantitative Methods for Environmental Health and Safety

   Code : EHS 3250                Unit : 9            Prerequisite :  STA 2220 or EHS 2550 (C)

Application of frequently applied equations, statistical procedures, and analytical tools used for environmental health and safety assessments.

Noise Control and Measurement

   Code : EHS 3510                             Unit : 2                                   Prerequisite :

Study of the impact of noise on the human body and techniques for measuring noise levels. Design of noise controls. Includes discussion of pertinent federal and state regulations concerning noise exposures in workplaces.

Radiation Safety

   Code : EHS 4230          Unit : 3        Prerequisite : EHS 4100 (C) and EHS 4200 (C)

Safety aspects of occupational hazards associated with the use of ionizing radiation in industry. Methods for the identification, evaluation and control of potential worker overexposure conditions will be reviewed. Biological effects of acute and chronic worker exposure will also be reviewed.

Ventilation and Emerging Technologies

   Code : EHS 4340      Unit : 9  Prerequisite :  EHS 4100, EHS 4200 and EHS 3420

Provides in-depth study and practice of the design and evaluation of ventilation systems used in manufacturing, laboratories, and service/processing environments for removal of harmful airborne vapors and particulate matter.

Radiation Exposure Control

   Code : EHS 4350              Unit : 2

Prerequisite : EHS 4100 (C), EHS 4200 (C) and EHS 3420 (C)

Overview of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation sources, their potential health effects, and their control. Course will also include discussion of electromagnetic fields and radio frequencies in regards to effects on human health
